Welcome to 2024! Each month during this year I will highlight a vitamin or mineral and provide information about why it’s important, where you can find it in your diet, and how much you need. We will cover some that are well known and some that don’t get a lot of attention. To start, we will look at vitamin A.
There are at least 12 known B vitamins ranging from B1 (known as Thiamin) to B12 (also known as cobalamin). Known for their role in keeping us energized, B vitamins are found in excessive amounts in energy drinks and supplements. This month we will focus on B7, also called biotin.
You may have heard claims that chromium will improve blood sugar for people who have diabetes, or that chromium will help you gain muscle mass or lose weight.
Important for its antioxidant function and nervous system protection, vitamin E is especially important for older adults. Vitamin E is another fat-soluble vitamin, along with vitamin A, which was highlighted in January.
